The Law Office of Charles Jones represents two University of Georgia students who are today filing a state civil rights lawsuit against Athens-Clarke County, seeking to overturn the college town's draconian and restrictive noise ordinance as a violation of the Free Speech clause of the Georgia Constitution.
The students argue that the Ordinance is not "narrowly tailored," a requirement very strictly enforced by the Georgia Supreme Court. The Ordinance applies the same expectation of quiet in downtown Athens that it applies in a residential subdivision or sheep meadow, and does not afford alleged violators any warning before a citation is issued. The maximum penalty for violating the Ordinance is 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The Law Office of Charles Jones is confident that the Courts will view this ordinance as an overbroad and blanket restriction which runs far outside the boundaries set down by the Georgia Constitution.
The Law Office of Charles Jones is proud to announce discounts off all legal fees for members of the military. This is simply our small way of giving back to those who give so much to keep us free and safe from terrorism. The Firm sends genuine thanks to the honorable men and women who wear the uniform of the United States.
Under the new policy, all heroes (Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Retired) receive a 20% discount off all legal fees. Deployed heroes and their immediate families receive a 35% fee discount. The Firm encourages all local attorneys and businesses to join in this effort to say "Thank You America's Heroes."
Athens attorney Charles Jones today nominated The Honorable John Michael Coleman, former Chief Magistrate of Athens-Clarke County, to serve as the County's newest State Court Judge. In his letter to Judicial Nominating Commission Chairman Michael Bowers, Jones praised Coleman's "eminent fairness and judicial temperament."
Jones also pointed out Coleman's tireless dedication to extensive community involvement, and his commitment to character and solid judicial values. Jones is confident that Coleman will serve the citizens of Athens-Clarke County well as State Court Judge.
